The Health Information Management (HIM) program at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette is one of only three in Louisiana offering a Bachelor of Science Degree in Health Information Management. Our program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM).
The field of health information management is rewarding and challenging. Graduates are provided an opportunity to work in healthcare and influence patient care. The course work and professional practice experience in our curriculum become the student’s preparation for a professional career in HIM. The extensive job market available to HIM graduates boasts a projected 12,000 to 50,000 new jobs anticipated by 2017 according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
After graduation, students are prepared to take the certification exam offered by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA). Over the past several years, the average pass rate of UL Lafayette graduates on this certification exam is above the national average. We are proud to announce a 100% pass-rate for the graduating class of 2016! Upon successful completion of this exam, one earns the credential of Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA).
